It is the energy produced by the direct conversion of sunlight into electricity. Photovoltaic panels are made up of mono- or polycrystalline silicon cells. When sunlight strikes these modules, a potential difference is created, generating a direct electrical current. To make use of this energy, the direct current must be converted into alternating current using inverters.
It is very useful for electrifying small rural settlements or isolated homes, for standalone signalling equipment, battery charging, etc. There are also photovoltaic installations that feed their production directly into the grid.
The optimal location for these systems is in very sunny areas, free of shade and oriented towards the south or equipped with solar trackers.
