The Provincial Council of Alicante – together with its dependent entities, including the Provincial Energy Agency of Alicante – launched a Modernisation Plan in 2012 that laid the foundations for a broad and comprehensive project for this institution, but above all one that was directly linked to the citizens of the province. New technologies, their platforms and applications, have in recent years made it possible to simplify tools such as websites, with the aim of turning them into genuine windows to the institution.
Convinced that work carried out in this direction must go hand in hand with elements and actions of transparency, the current website of the Provincial Council of Alicante was launched in 2013. In addition, the number of pages corresponding to entities dependent on this institution, such as the Provincial Energy Agency of Alicante, has been progressively expanded. All of them apply these rules and publish data aimed at providing citizens with answers regarding decision-making, budget allocation, obligations and public services.
Official State Gazette (BOE) number 295 of 10 December 2013 published Law 19/2013 on Transparency, Access to Public Information and Good Governance. According to its preamble, this law represents “a significant step forward in this field and establishes standards comparable to those of other consolidated democracies”. Likewise, Law 2/2015 of 2 April of the Generalitat, on Transparency, Good Governance and Citizen Participation of the Valencian Community, adds to and extends the transparency-related content that we make available to citizens through this portal, with the aim of facilitating their participation in the management of the public activity of the Provincial Council of Alicante.
