Industry and energy consumption

For years and after carrying out energy auditing processes the Industry has been working on energy efficiency and savings plans. This is mainly due to the great impact that the energy costs have had on its production costs, in some cases energy costs can stand for between 25% and 50% of these. Moreover, it should be highlighted thattraditionally less energy efficiency measures have been taken in small and medium scale industry, so this is precisely the business sector where more effort in this area has to be made.

As for the type of consumption, in general, the most important are lighting, which stands for an average of 10% of the energy consumption, air conditioning that stands for 25% and machinery that stands for 65%; moreover there is a wide variety of processes that are carried out with the associated types of consumption.

It is worth pointing out that there is a broad range of energy efficient technology available for the industrial sector and it can all be adapted to the large number of aforesaid industrial processes, which include the following:

  • High efficiency motors, with savings of up to 10%.
  • Variable speed drives, with savings of up to 25%.
  • Air compressor operations, with savings of up to 30%.
  • Heat pump operations, with savings of approximately 40%.
